Rebuilding Hope After the Korail Fire: AMAN’s Emergency Response Brings Relief to 3,300 People

In the early hours of a tragic night, a massive fire swept through Korail, one of Dhaka’s largest informal settlements. Within minutes, more than 1,500 homes were reduced to ashes. Families fled with nothing but their children in their arms, watching helplessly as the flames destroyed their shelters, their belongings, and the memories they had built over years.

As dawn broke, thousands stood under the open sky — mothers searching for warmth, fathers searching for hope, and children trembling with fear and hunger. With winter approaching and no roofs over their heads, the need for urgent humanitarian support became critical.

AMAN Steps Forward — Supported by Human Appeal

Recognizing the scale of devastation, the Association for Mass Advancement Network (AMAN) immediately mobilized an emergency response team. Through the generous support of Human Appeal, AMAN reached the affected community within hours, providing life-saving winter items and essential dignity supplies to families who had lost everything.

With compassion and urgency, the AMAN team distributed comprehensive relief packages designed to bring immediate comfort, protection, and dignity to the survivors.

What Each Family Received

Every affected household received a complete winter and dignity support pack containing two blankets, two thick long-sleeve T-shirts, men’s and women’s shawls, a female three-piece dress, a shirt, a lungi, a burqa, a mosquito net, sanitary napkins, two bars of soap, and two full sets of bedding with pillows and covers. For families standing amidst the ashes, these were far more than relief items — they were a lifeline. The new bedding offered a place to rest, the clothing brought warmth, the hygiene essentials restored dignity, and above all, the timely support reminded them that they were not alone.
